How long does it take to remove braces

Learn How Long it Takes to Remove Braces

The mouth miracle

It’s true: Braces have proven to be any mouth’s miracle for more reasons than one. While they do give the gift of a beautiful and confident smile, they also improve long-term dental health and oral hygiene, prevent cavities and gum infection, and are an alternative to tooth extraction and headgear. The time it takes for braces to do their thing seems small compared to lasting dental health and personal confidence. Even still, if you’ve had braces for a while then you’re probably wondering, “When will I get my braces off”?

How to shorten your treatment

At Black Orthodontics, we keep our patients completely in the know about everything that’s going on during treatment. We provide a plan and stay by your side during your procedure and afterward too. Dr. Black wants you to have the best experience possible, so he lends a couple of tips for how to make the entire process as quick and comfortable as possible.

There are several things you can do to improve the effectiveness of braces and have them removed earlier.

Watch what you eat

The first step is being careful about what you eat. Braces are sturdy, but can also be fragile if not cared for properly. The better you treat them, the smoother everything will go. Try to avoid anything that may cause your teeth to shift. Causes include chewing on non-food objects like pencils, biting your nails, or fiddling with the bands on your braces. Steer clear of unhealthy foods that can cause tooth decay such as soda or candy. Also, completely chew up hard foods like raw vegetables to avoid damaging your braces.

Dental hygiene comes first!

Second, keep your braces really clean and take good care of them. It’s fairly simple so long as you keep up with it. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush your teeth regularly— in the morning and at night every day. Brush for at least 3 minutes and get into all of the crevices of the brackets. After brushing, thread floss underneath the wire between each bracket to fully floss between each tooth. By doing both of these tasks every day, you will avoid plaque and buildup between teeth. Dental hygiene can be a little more work when you have braces, but it certainly pays off!

There are faster options

Finally, you have the option of investing in faster types of orthodontic treatment. In addition to regular metal braces, Dr. Black also specializes in Damon System Braces and AcceleDent®. Unlike traditional braces, Damon System Braces uses bracket clips instead of rubber bands. By eliminating rubber bands on the bracket, there is less pressure and friction on the teeth. This process allows the teeth to move more organically, thus making braces more comfortable and faster. Not to mention, with Damon, dental hygiene a lot easier too! Black Orthodontics also utilizes AcceleDent®, which is a lightweight appliance that is used for 20 minutes a day. Paired with braces, it can reduce the time of your orthodontic treatment by as much as 50 percent!

By following these helpful tips, the teeth straightening journey will be smooth, easy, and quick.
