Dr. Rich Andrews

About
Dr. Andrews has focused his career on helping others and giving back to the community. He has volunteered with and lead numerous organizations to assemble skin care/dental care packages for children and families with no fixed address, organizing international meetings for doctors to work together for victims of orofacial trauma, university planning committees, educational fair days for people with special health care needs, mouthguard clinics, tutoring primary school students and college athletes, Special Olympics floor hockey practice, and rugby tournaments. He is grateful for the opportunity to join Dr. Black in supporting the events for Asheville and surrounding communities. Dr. Andrews enjoys having fun in clinic with his team members and patients.
Dr. Andrews’ father was a pediatric dentist and raised, trained and mentored him to have strong values and personal code of conduct. Dr. Andrews has made numerous trips to northern First Nation’s reserves to provide dental care for people of all ages in communities around Hudson Bay. Like his father, he is an educator at heart and loves to share what he has learned with others. Dr. Andrews enjoyed teaching dental students at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, University of Toronto and University of North Carolina.
Outside the office, Dr. Andrews enjoys research, writing and developing tools for clinical decision making. At home, he’s enjoys his time with his wife Kelly and spends his time a s a tech tinkerer, strategy game enthusiast, enjoying local food scenes, ice skating (whenever possible), and the great outdoors whether it’s hiking, water sports, or reading a book in the shade.
Education
Dr. Andrews earned his M.Sc. and Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of North Carolina, following advanced training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Toronto. He completed a General Practice Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto and his dental degree at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed a pre-doctoral Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. His research at the University of North Carolina was award winning at the annual American Association of Orthodontics meeting. With 16 years of university training, he brings a wealth of clinical experience and scientific knowledge to the practice.
His clinical focus includes:
- Conservative early orthodontic treatment
- Interdisciplinary care with restorative, surgical, and pediatric practitioners
- 3D imaging analysis for precise diagnosis and treatment tracking
Known for his evidence-based and data-driven treatment style, Dr. Andrews aims to deliver predictable results without over-treatment. He prioritizes transparency with patients and families, aligning treatment goals with long term health and function – not trends.
