I was here Benefits of Having Your Child See an Orthodontist by Age 7
When it comes to orthodontics, 7 really is the magic number. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends everyone should get an orthodontic consultation by then. You might be asking, how old do you have to be for braces? Can a 7 year old get braces? Getting a check-up doesn’t necessarily mean your child will need treatment, but it is extremely helpful in order to evaluate any issues that they might have or potential issues that could arise. Why by age 7? It’s often thought that all your baby teeth must fall out before getting an orthodontic consultation, but this is far from the truth. In actuality, when it comes to orthodontic treatments, the earlier the better, as it gives us a chance to examine your child while their bones are still growing. Typically less than 10% of consults under the age of 12 require interceptive orthodontic treatment. In cases where we do recommend treatment, we’ll be able to provide the least invasive approach to everything from making room for adult teeth to advancing and/or expanding your child’s jaw. In addressing these issues early, we’re able to provide the most options which, if left unchecked, could otherwise require surgery and/or extraction of permanent teeth later. How we can help We offer free consultations, which include x-rays and photographs, to our patients. As we said, most children will not need early treatment, and for them we’ve created our Growth & Guidance program. In this program we monitor growth to insure, if required, we are on top of any treatment that might be needed down the line. These growth and guidance appointments are scheduled every 6 to 12 months at no cost to you. Plus, through our holistic approach to care, your children will learn great habits that will help them maintain a healthy and beautiful smile throughout their entire lives.
